The eyes of the idol are said to be so expressive that people feel they are being watched —
lovingly and wisely.
During the 1990s, someone tried to steal ornaments from the idol —
but legend says the power went out across the entire area,
and the thief ran into the police himself. Locals still smile when telling that story.
